So you want a website and you want to build it yourself? Instead of engaging the services of this Bel Air, Baltimore-based web development and design team, that is. That’s ok, we’re here to advise as much or as little as you need :-).
Without going into the why’s and wherefore’s (that’s fodder for plenty of future posts), we recommend using WordPress as your website platform and the following set of WordPress plugins as a starting point:
Website security, the most critical plugin—the only one you’ll need. Documentation about the All In One WP Security Plugin can be found at www.tipsandtricks-hq.com/wordpress-security-and-firewall-plugin.
Website analytics—know key data about your website to inform your decision making. You will also need to create a Google Analytics account and link the code in, using this plugin. Documentation about the Google Analytics Dashboard for WP can be found at the plugin developer’s website.
3. Yoast SEO »
Getting found online—a comprehensive plugin for search engine optimation. Documentation about the Yoast SEO Plugin can be found at yoast.com/wordpress-seo.
Administraiton—this plugin provides fantastic website administration, including off server backups, health checks, analytics, SEO and reporting, for the most minimal cost I come across yet. Documentation can be found at managewp.com/user-guide/video-tutorials.
Email subscribers—this plugin enables you to collect subscribers, in a most beautiful fashion. It does cost something, by way of subscribing to Elegant Themes*. On the whole, though, it’s excellent value since you also get access to all their themes, including the excellent Divi theme, which is my current favorite. This is a handy little plugin enabling you to easily clone a page or post.
This plugin adds to the WordPress visual editor, allowing more options when creating posts. It’s great for adding superscripts or the rare times you may need to change font sizes. Note that any mass scale font updates should only be done via the theme CSS files, not overriding them in each and every post.

Another handy little plugin enabling the creation of tables for tabular data in posts.
